(Wednesday, May 19, 2004) -- Preussen Münster with American defender Pellegrino Matarazzo playing the first 71 minutes, moved out of the relegation zone for the first time since September with its 1-0 victory at home over Chemnitzer FC Saturday in Germany's third-division Regionalliga Nord.

Münster (8-12-11, 35 points) is presently 14th, one spot above the drop zone, but has only its superior goal difference to thank for its position above both the amateur sides of Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV.

American defender Ian Joy of Hamburg is recovering from an injury received during a recent regional Cup game and did not dress for the weekend match against the Boruissia Dortmund Amateurs. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and left Hamburg (8-12-11, 35) two spots below Münster in the table.

American striker Jacob Thomas sat out the second game of a four-match suspension for Eintracht Braunschweig which defeated KFC Uerdingen 5-1 at home. Braunschweig (13-11-7, 46) is in sixth place.

In the Regionalliga Süd, Americans Grover Gibson and Tim Lawson, and former U.S. international Michael Mason were once again all in the SV Elversberg starting lineup and were part of a much-needed 2-0 home victory over the 1. FC Kaiserslautern Amatuers Saturday. The victory was the first for Elversberg (9-11-9, 38) in 2004 and moved the club to 15th in the table, one spot and one point from escaping the relegation zone.

Gibson and Lawson went the distance while Mason was replaced in the 60th minute.

American striker John van Buskirk and Sportfreunde lost on the road 2-0 to TSG Hoffenheim and now have little hope of remaining in the third division for another year. Siegen (9-17-5, 32) is currently in 17th place, seven points away from safety with three games to play. American defender Eric Lukin did not see action in the game for Siegen.

American striker Jonathan Cummings did not play in host VfR Aalen's 4-2 defeat to the VfB Stuttgart Amateurs. Aalen (11-11-9, 42) is ninth in the table.
