(Wednesday, August 31, 2011) -- With the European transfer window closing tonight, a deal was finalized for United States midfielder Michael Bradley to move from Germany to Italy.

According to multiple reports from both countries, Bradley's current team, Borussia Mönchengladbach has come to an agreement with Chievo Verona of the Italian Serie A for a transfer fee of nearly $3 million. Bradley went to Italy to take a physical before signing a multi-year contract to become the only American in Serie A.

Chievo finished 11th in Serie A last season and will open its strike-delayed 2011-12 season September 11 against Novara Calcio.

In Europa League playoff series second legs on Thursday, U.S. striker Jozy Altidore scored two goals for a second straight time in five days for the Netherlands' AZ Alkmaar, which reached the group stage with a 6-0 rout of Norway's Aalesund FK. Altidore scored his first with a simple goal-mouth finish in the 24th minute. Near the hour, he headed in a corner kick for AZ's fourth goal of the night and his fifth of the year in all competitions.

Altidore was replaced four minutes later, coming off with a sore ankle.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Altidore played 76 minutes and received a yellow card in a 3-0 victory Sunday over FC Groningen.

The draw gave Maribor a 3-2 aggregate win in the play-in series, but Rangers might not be out of it. A protest has been lodged with European governing body UEFA, claiming that Maribor used as many as four ineligible players. If the protest is upheld, Rangers will advance to the group stage.
