Adu thrives in new home, scores winner for Rizespor of Turkey.

(Thursday, March 10, 2011) -- United States midfielder Freddy Adu seems to have found a home in the second-tier Turkish Bank Asya 1 League. On Sunday, he blasted home the only goal of the match for Caykur Rizespor, which defeated Gaziantep BBK 1-0.
Adu took the ball in an open space at the right side of the penalty area about 23 yards from goal. In one motion he settled and pivoted to his left, creating space and clearing a defender. He lashed a shot which settled inside the far post much to the delight of the home crowd.
U.S. defender Steve Cherundolo played 90 minutes for Hannover 96, which defeated Bayern Munich 3-1 Saturday.
Hannover grabbed an early lead and stayed ahead. The club is third in the German Bundesliga at 15-8-2 with 47 points, two points behind second-place Bayer Leverkusen (14-4-7) with 1. FSV Mainz 05 (14-10-1, 43 points) and Munich (12-7-6, 42). Third place qualifies for a European Champions League play-in berth, while second guarantees a place in the Champions League group phase.
As usual, U.S. midfielder DaMarcus Beasley did not dress for Hannover.
In Scotland, it was U.S. midfielder Maurice Edu who came up with a critical goal for Glasgow Rangers.
What Glasgow Rangers have shown this season is the ability to defeat pretty much everyone, but arch-rival Glasgow Celtic. Again last week, Celtic defeated Rangers, this time 1-0, ousting them from the Scottish Cup.
Edu played 90 minutes, as he did in Scottish Premier League victories over St. Mirren (1-0) and St. Johnston (4-0).
After eliminating Portugal's Sporting Lisbon in the Europa Cup, Rangers will face PSV Eindhoven in the quarterfinals.
In the German Bundesliga, German-American defender\midfielder Timothy Chandler went the distance for 1. FC Nürnberg in a 1-0 victory Saturday over St, Pauli
Before that, he played 90 minutes and received a yellow card in a 1-1 draw with Schalke 04.
Chandler has been rewarded for his run of good play with a contract extension through the 2012-13 season.
U.S. midfielder Ricardo Clark is recovering from a fractured cheekbone and was sidelined for Eintracht Frankfurt's 0-0 draw with Kaiserslautern on Saturday. He was also unavailable for a 2-0 loss to VfB Stuttgart.
American goalkeeper Daniel Williams is recovering from a knee injury and not available to SC Freiburg for recent matches, including its 3-1 loss to Werder Bremen on Sunday.
In the 2.Bundesliga, American keeper David Yelldell had to come out with an injury after just 12 minutes for MSV Duisburg in a 2-1 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld. In his previous outing, Yeldell had three saves and kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with RW Oberhausen.
Another American keeper, Luis Robles, has been benched in favor of Andreas Luthe by Karlsruhe and did not play in a 1-1 draw Sunday with VfL Bochum.
Karlsruhe's defense has been in shambles since resumption of play following the winter break. In its previous game, Karlsruhe was drubbed 4-1 by Ingolstadt, the fourth game in the last eight in which it conceded three or more goals.
With U.S. striker Edson Buddle starting and adding some flair to the Ingolstadt attack, it's beginning to look like the relegation-threatened side will save itself. Buddle started and played the first hour in a 2-1 win over Alemania Aachen on Sunday. That followed a battle of demotion-threatened teams in which Buddle scored a goal in an easy 4-1 triumph over Karlsruhe.
Buddle come off the Ingolstadt bench in the 76th minute and scored the final goal, heading home a free kick from close in after beating a pair of defenders for his second goal of the season. Earlier in the match, Robles received a yellow card when he took down a striker in the box which led to a converted penalty kick.
American defender Amaechi Igwe, who is recovering from a knee injury, remains unavailable to Ingolstadt.
American forward Bobby Wood continues to come off the bench and see some second-half action for TSV 1860 Munich. Most recently, he played the final two minutes plus stoppage in a 1-1 draw Friday with RW Oberhausen. That followed an 18-minutes relief appearance in a 1-0 decision Friday over FC Union Berlin.
American defender Alfredo Morales continues not to dress for Hertha Berlin.
In France, U.S. defender Carlos Bocanegra and St. Etienne lost for the fourth straight time 1-0 to Caen on Saturday. Before that, Nice downed St. Etienne 2-0.
Bocanegra and the defense continue to play well, but the team has lost its scoring touch.
In the Netherlands, U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu is fully recovered from a strained back and a helped FC Twente reach the Europa League Round of 16 by holding Rubin Kazan of Russia to a 2-2 draw at home in Arke Stadion.
Twente had taken a 2-0 led on aggregate with a victory in Moscow and looked to possibly be in trouble when the Russians went two goals up last Thursday. But Twente came back with a pair of tallies in the second half and shut down the visitors to prevail 4-2 on aggregate
After sitting out Twente's 1-0 decision over FC Utrecht in the Dutch Cup, Onyewu played 90 minutes in a 2-0 league win over NAC Breda on Saturday. Onyewu also went the distance the previous Sunday in a 2-1 loss to AZ Alkmaar.
In Turkey, U.S. striker Jozy Altidore has fully recovered from a minor ankle injury and started, playing 76 minutes for Bursaspor in a 1-1 draw Sunday with Istanbul Buyuksehir BSK. He was still sidelined for the preceding 2-0 victory over Bucaspor.
In Belgium, U.S. midfielder Sacha Kljestan dressed but did not play for RSC Anderlecht in its 1-1 draw with Racing Genk. He was also unused on the bench when Anderlecht was eliminated from the Europa League by Ajax Amsterdam 2-0 (5-0 on aggregate).
Play has resumed in the Danish Superligaen. American defender Michael Parkhurst went 90 minutes for FC Nordsjaelland in a 4-0 loss Sunday to Randers FC.
American defender Clarence Goodson also played 90 minutes for Brondby IF in a 1-1 draw Sunday with Lyngby.
American forward Marcus Tracy is recovering from a knee injury and was unavailable for Aalborg nor Chris Rolfe dressed for Aalborg BK's 1-1 draw with Silkeborg IF on Saturday. Tracy is still recovering from a knee injury.
In Sweden American midfielder Alejandro Bedoya returned to preseason training with Orebro after spending a week training with Birmingham City of the English Premier League.
Bedoya was in the starting lineup for a Birmingham reserve team that was defeated 4-0 by Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes.
