Weeks ahead of schedule, Onyewu returns from injury and helps Sporting Lisbon win.

(Wednesday, April 25, 2012) -- United States defender Oguchi Onyewu has worked his way back to fitness after right-knee surgery and returned to Sporting Lisbon of Portugal's lineup.
On Sunday, he was able to play 90 minutes with Sporting defeating Nacional de Madeira 3-2.
Onyewu was injured two months ago playing with the U.S. men in a friendly against Italy. After surgery, he rehabbed the knee with Jim Hashimoto, the head of the U.S. Soccer Federation's rehabilitation program in Delaware and his return is actually several weeks ahead of the most optimistic estimates.
U.S. striker Jozy Altidore continues his torrid scoring pace, connecting on the winning goal in AZ Alkmaar's 2-1 victory over VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The goal was Altidore's 19th of the season in all competitions and his fifth in his last five games.
This weekend's winner came off a header, whereas a week earlier, he settled matters with a blast into an upper corner from distance.
Another sharp goal this week came from another American with much experience with the U.S. men. Midfielder DaMarcus Beasley ran on to a ball on the left side and rammed it home for his fourth goal of the current Mexican Clausura season for Puebla in a 3-2 loss to Club America. He is tied for his team's goal-scoring lead.
In the German Bundesliga, German-American midfielder Jermaine Jones continues on a record pace to amass the most yellow cards in a season, getting one in a second straight match Sunday, FC Schalke 04's 1-1 draw with FC Augsburg.
German-American defender-midfielder Fabian Johnson, as has been the case most of the season, played 90 minutes for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in its 1-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
German-American defender-midfielder Danny Williams dressed, but did not play for Hoffenheim after going 90 minutes in his previous outing. American forward Joe Gyau did not dress for Hoffenheim, but it was announced he signed a new first-team contract with the club.
U.S. defender Steve Cherundolo went the distance for Hannover 96 in a 0-0 draw Sunday with SC Freiburg.
In his previous match, he played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Hamburger SV.

American forward Bobby Wood continues not to dress for 1860 Munich.
In Italy, play resumed after a league-wide postponement due to the death of Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini. U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley went the distance for Chievo Verona in a 0-0 draw Saturday with Udinese.
In France, American striker Charlie Davies continues not to dress for first-team matches at Sochaux.
In Belgium, U.S. midfielder Sacha Kljestan earned a yellow card in 90 minutes Sunday for Anderlecht in its 1-0 decision over Club Brugge.
Norwegian-born American midfielder Mikkel Diskerud did not dress for KAA Gent in its 4-1 victory over KV Kortrijk a week after dressing, but not leaving the bench.

Three U.S. eligible players started for Tijuana. Attacking midfielder Joe Corona and defender Greg Garza went 90 minutes, while left defender Edgar Castillo played the first 64 minutes.
U.S. midfielder José Torres played 90 minutes for Pachuca, which drew 1-1 with Monterrey.
American striker Herculez Gomez played 55 minutes for Santos Laguna in a 3-0 victory over Tigres.
U.S. defender Jonathan Bornstein did not dress for Tigres.
