CONCACAF Gold Cup
The Confederation of North, Central American, and Carribbean Football (CONCACAF)
Championship. Caribbean Football (CCCF) was the forerunner to CONCACAF, which was formed when
it merged with the North American Football Confederation (NAFC) in 1963.
The CCCF (1941-1946, 1948, 1951-1961) and NAFC (1947, 1949) staged various championship
tournaments until CONCACAF conducted the first combined event. CONCACAF staged championships
from 1963-1971, after which the winner of the World Cup qualifying tournament was considered
the continental champion. The championship was revised under the name Gold Cup in 1991.
