The North American Soccer League was by far the longest running and most successful professional soccer league
in United States history to date. The league expaded into Canada during that time. For the years 1967 and
1971-1982, a championship match decided the league title. For the years 1970 and 1984, the championship was
decided as a best of 3 contest. For the year 1983, the championship was decided as a best of 5 contest
