Olympic qualifying Canada, Honduras are United States’ group opponents in Hershey.By Robert WagmanSoccerTimes (Sunday, April 9, 2000) -- The United States will face Canada and Honduras in Group D preliminary-round play of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament April 21-30 at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pa. A draw tomorrow will determine which opponent the U.S. will face April 21 and which one on April 25 in the three-nation Group D. The top two teams advance to the semifinals along with the top two from Group E, which includes Mexico, Guatemala and Panama.. Both Group D matches will be at 5:30 (ET) or 8 p.m. The semifinals are on April 28 at 5:30 and 9, with the championship match on April 30 at 3:30 p.m., following the 1 p.m. third-place match. Both semifinal winners clinch berths in the Summer Olympics in Australia in September. Thus the championship match will be played mostly for pride. In yesterday’s semifinal Group B games, Mexico (2-0-1) emerged in first place after dispatching Costa Rica 5-1, while Honduras (1-0-2) after taking second place on the strength of a 2-0 shutout of Jamaica.
