Major League Soccer Moore scores in 87th; New England beats Kansas City 3-2, ties for fourth place.FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Tuesday, September 7, 1999) -- Joe-Max Moore netted the game-winner with three minutes remaining as the New England Revolution erased a two goal deficit in the final 23 minutes to overcome the Kansas City Wizards 3-2 in Major League Soccer action before 7,260 at Foxboro Stadium tonight.Moore also assisted Giovanni Savarese’s two goals, including the tying tally in the 81st minute. With the win, the Revolution (10-17, 22 points) tied the Miami Fusion (10-17, 22 points) for fourth place and the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. The two teams will face off Saturday at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Second-half substitute Jamar Beasley generate the pass for Moore’s deciding tally in the 87th when he dished the ball from the right wing into the Wizards' penalty area, pulling goalkeeper Tony Meola off his line and out of position. Moore charged the box, sliding in the wet grass and to drive his shot into the empty-net for the game winner. Six minutes earlier, Savarese headed Moore's centering pass into the lower right-hand corner of the net, past Meola, for his 50th MLS career goal and a 2-2 tie. Savarese has nine this season. The Wizards (8-19, 20 points) jumped out to 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, Preki curved a left-footed free-kick into the net from the top of the Revolution penalty area. New England goalkeeper\coach Walter Zenga was tracking the ball, but had to move to anticipate a possible deflection when Wizard forward Digital Takiwara made an attempt to strike the ball in flight. Takiwara never connected, however, and Preki's shot sailed past Zenga and into the net for his seventh goal of the season. In the 33rd minute, Moore dove a shot of the K.C. crossbar. In the 49th minute, Alex Bunbury drove a long pass to a streaking Chris Klein on the right wing. Klein carried the ball behind the Revs' defense and crossed it to midfielder Chris Henderson, who sent his shot past Zenga for his third goal and a 2-0 lead. Savarese put New England on the scoreboard in the 67th minute when he headed home a Moore corner kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.
