Lagos nets two goals for Tampa Bay in 4-0 drubbing of San Jose.

TAMPA BAY, Fla. (Wednesday, April 26, 2000) -- Manny Lagos had a pair of goals and Steve Ralston contributed two assists as Tampa Bay routed San Jose 4-0 before a paltry 5,510 at Raymond James Stadium tonight.

The Mutiny (4-3, 12 points), which is 4-0 at home and 0-3 on the road, has beaten the Earthquakes (2-3-1, 7) in nine of 11 all-time meetings.

Tampa Bay jumped ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute. Winger Eric Quill, attempting to run onto a pass on the left side of the box, became entangled with San Jose defender Ryan Tinsley, who eventually tugged Quill down. On the ensuing penalty kick, striker Raul Diaz Arce netted his fourth goal of the season, but his first since March 25.

The Mutiny made it 2-0 in the 14th minute when Lagos capitalized on a brilliant Ralston run to notch his third goal. Ralston played the ball on the right wing and immediately split a double-team to get into the box. Ralston then juked two more Earthquakes defenders and lofted the ball to an open Lagos who quickly headed past San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon.

The Mutiny had the better of play as the second half opened up. Josh Keller found a wide-open Lagos down the right wing as San Jose was forced to push forward looking for offense. Lagos cruised down the right side and beat Cannon from 18 yards out with a low, hard shot to the far post in the 59th minute to put the Mutiny up 3-0.

Mamadou Diallo came off the bench late in the second half to make it 4-0 in the 80th minute. Ralston broke free down the right side, and chipped a nice pass out of the corner to an unmarked Diallo, who headed home his third goal from six yards out.
