Ruiz, Cooper send FC Dallas past Red Bulls 2-1.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Wednesday, May 24, 2006) -- The high scoring strike pair of Kenny Cooper and Carlos Ruiz each scored in the final 14 minutes of regulation to rally FC Dallas to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium tonight.

Dallas (6-1-3, 21 points) received the game-winner from Ruiz in the 87th minute, 12 minutes after he had an assist on Cooper's equalizer.

Ruiz took a pass from midfielder Richard Mulrooney, used a spin move in the penalty area to shake defender Taylor Graham and beat goalkeeper Tony Meola for a 2-1 lead in the 87th minute.

With his sixth goal of the season, Ruiz moved into second place in Major League Soccer's scoring race behind seven by Brian Ching of the Houston Dynamo. All six of Ruiz's tallies came in the last five games, tying a club record by scoring in five consecutive outings.

In the 76th minute, Ruiz controlled the ball at the top of the box and fed midfielder Ronnie O'Brien on his right. O'Brien put a cross to the far post on Cooper's head and he put his shot past Meola for his fifth goal of the year and a 1-1 tie.

The Red Bulls (1-2-5, 8 points) went ahead in the eighth minute when midfielder Seth Stammler scored for the third time in two games. He took a pass from midfielder Mark Lisi and sent his chip from 10 yards out in the left side of the box inside the far post for a 1-0 advantage.

Dallas keeper Dario Sala made a key save three minutes before Ruiz's decisive goal. He wandered out of position, but recovered to deny a shot by Edson Buddle in the 84th minute.
