LOS ANGELES (Friday, September 29, 2006) -- Freshman midfielder James Jaramillo scored his first collegiate goal with 18 seconds remaining in sudden death, allowing No. 19 UCLA to drop fourth-ranked Washington from the ranks of the undefeated 2-1 before 1,891 witnesses of the Pac-10 match at Frank W. Marshall Field.
Washington became the third team this season to suffer its first loss at the hands of the Bruins (5-3-2, 1-1-1 in conference).
As a second and final overtime period neared its conclusion, Jaramillo put away a rebound of a shot by freshman midfielder Kyle Nakazawa to drop the Huskies to 8-1, 1-1. Nakazawa had unleashed a bomb from the right side that was blocked and Jaramillo was first to the loose ball.
UCLA had dominated extra time holding a 10- shots advantage over UW, which had been reduced to 10 men when junior midfielder Steve Mohn was sent off with a red card in the 84th minute.
Overtime would not have been needed had UW senior defender Ty Harden not tied the match at 1-1 with 1:39 left in regulation. Four minutes after Mohn was ejected, Harden carried past a couple of defenders into the Bruins' penalty area and beat freshman goalkeeper Brian Perk from close range.
UCLA went ahead 1-0 after 31:14 when junior defender Mike Zaher carried up the middle and fired a shot past Rylan Hawkins into the right corner of the net for his second tally of he season.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- For the second straight match, Maryland junior midfielder Maurice Edu notched the only goal of the game with a header from inside the penalty area. Tonight, Edu gave the No. 3 Terrapins a 1-0 triumph over eighth-ranked Duke in an Atlantic Coast Conference match before a Maryland schools record 6,489 at Ludwig Field.
The largest previous crowd at Ludwig was 6,203 that saw Maryland tie Indiana 3-3 last October 29.
In winning their sixth consecutive outing, five by shutout, the Terps recorded their seventh clean sheet of the season to climb to 10-1, 3-1 in the ACC, while Duke fell to 7-2-1, 2-1-1.
"You can see this team has played in some big games," U.Md. coach Sasho Cirovski said. "We have a bunch of tough competitors and that came through today. I'm really proud of them."
Edu struck in the 14th minute with sophomore attacker Graham Zusi setting him up. Edu, about 10 yards away from the center of the goal, headed the ball past junior goalkeeper Justin Papadakis.
"There was only one goal in the game, but there were a lot of good things out there," Cirivski said. "It was a great college game."
