DALLAS (Wednesday, November 7, 2007) -- Junior striker forward Scott Geppert scored early, enough to give No. 6 Southern Methodist a 1-0 victory over Bradley in a non-conference match before 272 at Westcott Field tonight.
In snapping Bradley's four-match winning streak, SMU raised its record to 12-3-2, while dropping the Braves to 11-5-3. The Mustangs lead the series 4-3-3 over its former Missouri Valley Conference rival. BU remains in the MVC, while SMU moved to Conference USA for 2005 after five years in the MVC..
After being awarded a free kick 22 yards from net, SMU senior midfielder Scott Corbin lifted a free kick to Geppert, who elevated above the Bradley defense and headed the ball at a downward angle. It bounced once past goalkeeper Mike Haynes and just inside the left post with 15:15 elapsed.
Despite missing the first five games of the year, Geppert now has six goals this season, second on the Mustangs to junior midfielder Bruno Guarda, who also leads his team with seven assists.
SMU head a 15-6 in shots, but shots on goal were at a premium. Haynes, a senior, made two saves, while Mustangs senior keeper Steve Sandbo recorded one save for his fifth clean sheet of the season, lowering his goals-against average to 0.96.
Geppert produced all three SMU shots on frame.
