Saidi Isaac exploded for four goals in a period of 41 minutes spanning halftime of Winthrop's 8-1 romp over Liberty at home Saturday in the Big South opener for both schools. With Winthrop nursing a 2-1 lead, the business\marketing major exploded for consecutive tallies that turned the close game into a laugher.

Isaac leads the NCAA Division I statistics with 1.38 goals per game, his 11 goals tied for second, one behind Jacksonville sennior forward Tommy Krizanovic. Isaac, who is a slight 5-foot-8, 160 pounds, has proved remarkably accurate this season, taking 29 shots, putting 20 on frame and 11 in the net. In addition to being a sure finisher, Saidi has demonstrated great speed and good ball skills.
Georgios Spanos
St. John's
senior defender
West Islip, N.Y.
Georgios Spanos is known for his steadfast defense and not only did he turn in one of his best efforts in back, he also assisted the goal that gave No. 17 St. John's a 1-0 decision over Big East foe Louisville in the Red Storm's only match last week.
As team captain, Spanos not only leads a back-line that has now recorded three straight clean sheets, he takes seriously his responsibility of organizing his entire team from his position on the right defensive flank. The match at Louisville was a dogged defensive battle with Louisville managing only seven shots to six for St. John's (6-2-1).
In the 27th minute, Spanos sent a cross to junior Jeff Stepan who converted for the first game-winner of his career. Spanos, who attended high school about 45 minutes from the Red Storm's Queens, N.Y., campus, has played all but 17 minutes this season.
