    Kerri Hanks (Allen, Texas) makes it a Notre Dame sweep of this week's "Player of the Week" awards with Joseph Lapira earning the men's honor for the second time this season. She scored three goals and added three assists as the No. 1 Irish (13-0) blanked a pair of Big East rivals.

    Hanks scored the first three goals -- her third career hat trick -- for a three-goal lead after after 54:12 and later provided an assist on Michele Weissenhofer's tally in the 57th minute as ND rolled past Seton Hall 5-0 Friday.

    Two days later, the sociology major registered the primary assists on goals by Brittany Bock and Amanda Cinalli on either side of halftime in a 2-0 decision over Rutgers, leaving the Irish 6-0 in league play.

    Through Sunday, Hanks ranked fourth in NCAA Division I with 11 goals and, adding in her six assists, she is fifth in points with 28. Notre Dame continues to lead the nation in scoring margin (plus-42; 45-3) with the nation's second-best scoring offense (3.46 goals per game) and third-lowest team goals-against average (0.23). The Irish also rank fifth in the nation with 10 shutouts.

    Jessica Maxwell anchored second-ranked North Carolina's defense in a pair of shutout victories on the road against nationally-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference opponents Virginia and Duke while recording an assist in each of the matches.

    It was Maxwell's accurate long ball that that was flicked on by Yael Averbuch to fellow midfielder Ali Hawkins who put away a header, giving the Tar Heels (14-1) an insurance tally midway through the first half of a 2-0 decision over then-No. 12 Virginia last Thursday.

    On Sunday, the economics major registered her fourth assist of the season with another long ball. Elizabeth Guess flicked the ball on to Whitney Engen who beat a defender and slipped a shot into the net from 10 yards out early in the second half for a two-goal advantage en route to a 3-0 triumph over then-21st ranked Duke, its Tobacco Road rival. Defeating the Blue Devils gave UNC four straight clean sheets and 10 for the season.

    With Maxwell serving as the leader in back, the Tar Heels have conceded five goals in 2006, standing fourth in NCAA Division I at 0.328 goals allowed per 90 minutes through Sunday.

    Note: After this team was selected, UNC conceded a goal, but still beat Boston College 3-1 in the ACC. The Tar Heels' shutout streak ended at 437 minutes, 18 seconds, but they are 15-1, 7-0 in confernce.

    Kristin Hextall had a hand in all five La Salle goals last week, contributing two goals and three assists in dropping Charlotte 2-1 and Richmond 3-0 in Atlantic 10 home games.

    Hextall's header off a corner kick in the 17th minute gave the Explorers (6-7) a lead over Charlotte Friday. After the 49ers equalized, Hextall's shot was blocked by goalkeeper Juli Black, but left Ally Kenney a rebound she put away for the game-winner in the 57th minute.

    Two days later, Hextall found net 83 seconds into the match against Richmond, taking a pass and beating a defender before finding net. In the 44th minute, she set up Kim Lisun for some breathing room before icing the victory in the 70th minute. Hextall, a nursing major, rang the crossbar with a shot and Ashley Cassell finished.

    In her third seasons in Philadelphia, La Salle is 11-1 when Hextall scores a goal and she has seven career game-winners. Hextall has three goals and four assists for 10 points this season after being held pointless for the first 10 games.
