Kristi Eveland
North Carolina
freshman defender
Southlake, Texas
When North Carolina coach Anson Dorrance and his staff recruited Kristi Eveland, they were confident they signed a player with a promising future. They weren't expecting the future to be now. A player not slated on her arrival for extensive playing time, Eveland leads UNC field players in minutes, having played 826 of a possible 830.
One of 10 Tar Heels freshmen, Eveland quickly demonstrated she belonged in the starting 11. Slightly more than two weeks after arriving in Chapel Hill, she played all but four minutes of the opening 1-0 overtime loss at then-No. 9 Texas A&M. Since, she has been on the field for every minute of the succeeding eight games -- all victories -- leading a defense that has become downright stingy.
With Eveland stationed on the right side of a three-player back-line, No. 4 UNC played stifling defense this past weekend, blanking Marquette 2-0 Friday and then-18th-ranked Florida 1-0 Sunday to capture the Duke adidas Classic title. Goalkeeper Anna Rodenbough was called on to make only one save combined in the two outings. Eveland was named tournament "Most Valuable Player" after Marquette's only shot was stopped by a defender and the Gators managed three shots with one on frame.
The Tar Heels have allowed only three goals this season and have shut out their last five opponents.

Michele Weissenhofer
Notre Dame
freshman forward
Naperville, Ill.
With lethal Katie Thorlakson (18 goals, 35 assists as a senior) graduated and star sophomore striker Kerri Hanks (28 goals, 15 assists in 2005) somewhat slowed by injury, Michele Weissenhofer didn't waste any time stepping into the void. Eight games into her college career, she leads No. 1 Notre Dame -- and the Big East -- with 10 assists and 20 points, while her five goals trail Hanks by one for the team lead.
Last weekend, she registered three goals and two assists in helping the Irish run their record to 8-0 with a pair of road victories. On Friday, she returned to her home -- the Chicago area -- and produced two goals and an assist in a 5-0 triumph over DePaul, helping to turn a close game into a laugher in the second half. First she set up Hanks to make it 2-0, then scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span to double the advantage.
In Sunday's 2-0 decision over Michigan, Weissenhofer again rallied UND in the second half, recording the decisive tally in the 57th minute before assisting Amanda Cinalli for insurance in the 84th. Weissenhofer's 29 shots, 14 of which have been on goal, trail only Hanks' 36 and 16.

Linsey McFarland
Weber State
junior forward
Hooper, Utah
Linsey McFarland scored five goals in two games for Weber State which went 2-0 at the Colorado College Invitational. In Friday's 4-1 victory over Iowa State, she put the Wildcats in the scorebook with a goal in the fifth minute before following with the eventual game-winner in the 20th minute.
On Sunday, McFarland staked WSU (4-2-2) to a three-goal advantage, finding net in the 31st, 45th and 57th minutes to complete her hat trick in a 4-0 decision over Ohio University. Without a goal before last weekend, McFarland now leads the Wildcats with five goals and 12 points.
In her third year in Ogden, Utah, McFarland has career totals of 22 goals and 11 assists for 55 points, leaving her three goals and 10 points shy of the WSU all-time records in those categories.

Olivia O'Rear
Southern Methodist
senior forward
Farmers Branch, Texas
Olivia O'Rear scored four of Southern Methodist's five goals over the weekend, including both game-winners, as the Mustangs' visit to Mississippi proved fruitful. First, O'Rear provided the tying and winning tallies in a 3-2 decision over Mississippi and she followed that with another pair in a 2-1 victory over Mississippi State. She punctuated the trip with a dramatic tally midway through a second 10-minute sudden-death period to drop MSU.
The marketing major's four goals lead SMU (5-2-1).

Erin Kane
Wisconsin-Milwaukee
sophomore goalkeeper
St. Charles, Ill.
Erin Kane posted three clean sheets to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a 2-0-1 record and chipped in an assist for good measure on last week's three-match road trip. She made seven saves in shutting out Marquette 2-0 Tuesday and followed that by blanking Kentucky for 110 minutes Friday in a 0-0 draw, though she only had to make one save.
She closed her weekend by making three saves in Sunday's 1-0 upset of then-No. 11 Missouri, giving the Panthers a 1-0-1 mark in the Wisconsin Invitational. On UWM's loan goal, Kane's long punt bounced through the defense and went to sophomore Jodi Klago, who scored in the 13th minute. The Panthers hadn't defeated a ranked opponent since 1998.

Katie Larkin
Brigham Young
sophomore forward-midfielder
Draper, Utah.
Katie Larkin netted two late game-winning goals last week, one in overtime, to boost No. 20 Brigham Young to a pair of 1-0 victories.
On Thursday, BYU (6-1) downed Pacific when Larkin put away a cross from Brooke Bowman in the 85th minute. Her decisive tally against Utah State Saturday came in the sixth minute of extra time. She intercepted a ball in the midfield, carried forward and drilled a left-footer into the top right corner from 25 yards.
Larkin leads the Cougars with three goals and seven points.
