After five-day combine, inaugural eight teams prepare for first draft.
BOCA RATON, Fla. (Saturday, December 9, 2000) -- The Women's United Soccer Association completed the final day of its first combine and tomorrow, the inaugural league gets around to the important business of stocking its eight teams.
The two-day draft will have its 15 rounds spread over two days starting Sunday at 9 a.m.
Each team has already been assigned five players: three from the United States national team and two from foreign nations.
Officials from all eight teams were on hand for the past five days at Florida Atlantic University to evaluate approximately 200 players.
After a blind draw the following draft order was determined:
For the first, third, fifth, seven, ninth, 11th, 13th and 15th rounds, the order will be: (1) Atlanta Beat (2) Philadelphia Charge (3) San Diego Spirit (4) New York Power (5) Boston Breakers (6) Carolina Tempest (7) Washington Freedom (8) Bay Area CyberRays.
For the second, fourth, sixth, eighth, 10th, 12th and 14th rounds, the order will be (1) Bay Area (2) Freedom (3) Carolina (4) Boston (5) New York (6) San Diego (7) Philadelphia (8) Atlanta.
Teams can trade draft picks.
