HEREDIA, Costa Rica (Saturday, July 31, 2004) -- With advancement to December's world championships secure, the United States futsal team captured the CONCACAF championship tonight, defeating Cuba 2-0. AKUREYRI, Iceland (Thursday, July 29, 2004) -- Midfielder Lori Chalupny scored in the closing moments of the first half while strikers Kelly Wilson and Carli Lloyd added tallies during a three-minute span after intermission, helping the United States squelch Sweden 3-0 for the Americans' sixth straight Nordic Cup championship and seventh in eight years. (Tuesday, July 27, 2004) -- Goalkeeper Brad Friedel suffered a strained thigh muscle in a Blackburn Rovers' exhibition match that will cause him to miss the remainder of the English Premier League club's preseason and places in jeopardy his availability for the United States August 18 visit to Jamaica to open the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.   Full story

DALVIK, Iceland (Tuesday, July 27, 2004) -- Striker Natasha Kai scored twice and midfielder Sarah Huffman added another, part of a three-goal second-half eruption that sent the United States under-21 women to the Nordic Cup championship match with a 3-0 whitewash of Germany. (Tuesday, July 20, 2004) - Defender Chris Brunt scored in the first half and the Minnesota Thunder made it stand up with a 1-0 upset of the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. The Galaxy was one of three Major League Soccer clubs to be eliminated by A-League teams tonight. The Charleston Battery edged the MetroStars 1-0 while the Richester Raging Rhinos needed a shootout to send the New England Revolution packing.   Full story

(Sunday, July 11, 2004) -- With a subpar effort, the United States men were lucky to salvage a 1-1 draw with Poland tonight on a late headed goal from defender Carlos Bocanegra. With World Cup qualifying about to begin in earnest, U.S. manager Bruce Arena must hope for and expect better when he assembles his full side.
