Teams from Syracuse, N.Y., and the Canadian cities of Edmonton and Calgary will not compete in 2005. Five days ago, the Major Indoor Soccer League shut down the Monterrey Fury.   Full story

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Wednesday, October 28, 2004) -- No one said being No. 1 was going to be easy. North Carolina-Greensboro, top-ranked for the first time since the men's program joined NCAA Division I in 1991, seemed to face an easy match tonight, but struggling High Point gave the Spartans all they could handle. (Tuesday, October 26, 2004) -- United States goalkeeper Tim Howard was back in action for the Manchester United for the first time in more than a month, posting a shutout in the Red Devils' 3-0 decision over host Crewe Alexandra in the third round of England's Carling Cup. (Monday, October 25, 2004) -- United States defender Steve Cherundolo scored his first-ever goal in Germany's 1Bundesliga Saturday, helping Hannover 96 win for the fourth time in five games by defeating host Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0. (Wednesday, October 20, 2004) -- There are many Americans toiling in England's top soccer leagues, but none have accomplished what Chris Cleary did Saturday. The 25-year-old Boston native became the first player from the United States to score three goals in an FA Cup match. (Wednesday, October 20, 2004) -- Osnabrück's American midfielder Joe Enochs was voted as having scored the ARD Sportschau "Goal of the Month" by German soccer fans. His highlight-reel goal was scored from 24 yards past a diving Bayern Munich goalkeeper to give Osnabrück a 1-1 tie in a German Cup match.   Full story

(Wednesday, October 13, 2004) -- Midfielder Landon Donovan scored two key goals, then striker Ed Johnson came off the bench to add three more, leading the United States men past Panama 6-0.
