(Tuesday, September 29, 2004) -- The United States men are hopeful their midfielder and captain Claudio Reyna will be available for upcoming World Cup qualifiers in El Salvador October 13 and against Panama four days later at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Reyna strained a quadriceps, apparently in Manchester City's 2-1 English Premier League victory over Crystal Palace Saturday, then aggravated it Tuesday in training.   Full story

(Tuesday, September 27, 2004) -- United States striker Clint Mathis made the most of his nine minutes of action, scoring the winning goal for Hannover 96 which defeated Schalke 04 1-0 Saturday in Germany's 1Bundesliga. Tonight he was back in the starting lineup, but Hannover lost.   Full story

(Monday, September 27, 2004) -- United States midfielder Eddie Lewis was back in action Saturday, turning in a solid performance to help Preston North End defeat Crewe 1-0 in the second-division English League Championship. Lewis thought he would have to sit out after being ejected late in Preston's 4-0 Carling Cup victory over Mansfield Town of the fourth-tier League Two, but the red card was later rescinded.   Full story

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Wednesday, September 22, 2004) -- Reserve striker Igor Simutenkov's scored with a free kick six minutes into sudden death, giving the Kansas City Wizards the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title with a 1-0 decision over the defending champion Chicago Fire. PANAMA CITY, Panama (Friday, September 10, 2004) -- The United States men sit on top of Group 1 in CONCACAF WOrld Cup qualifying with a victory at home and two draws on the road. With two of their three remaining matches at home, the Americans are in a very strong position to move on to the final qualifying round next year. Americans were quite fortunate to escape Panama with a draw.

(Wednesday, September 8, 2004) -- Panama outplayed and outhustled the United States men over the closing 45 minutes of their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier, but the Americans were fortunate to get Cobi Jones' goal two minutes into stoppage time to escape with a 1-1 draw. It was the second time in as many road matches in this semifinal round robin that the U.S. tied the game when a reserve scored in the closing moments for a 1-1 tie.   Full story

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Saturday, September 4, 2004) -- Powered by goals from striker Brian Ching and midfielder Landon Donovan, the United States men recorded a solid, if uneven 2-0 victory over El Salvador in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifying semifinal-round match. With visiting Panama stunning Jamaica 2-1, the U.S. is alone in first place in the four-nation Group 1 after two games.   Full story

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wednesday, September 1, 2004) -- His first inclination surely was to shoot, but freshman striker Mike Glaccum knew better. He instead pulled up, took his time, surveyed the situation and found junior midfielder Dave McAnally open in the penalty area. McAnally's second career goal, coming with 10 minutes remaining, completed Georgetown's 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Delaware and also provided coach Keith Tabatznik with his 200th career victory.   Full story
