The Netherlands shut down the United States 2-0. de Boer and Seedorf score for the visiting Dutch.

MIAMI (Saturday, February 21, 1998) -- Ronald de Boer scored in the second minute and Clarence Seedorf one minute after intermission to give the Netherlands a 2-0 decision over the United States in a friendly match at Pro Player Stadium this afternoon.

In the second minute, De Boer intercepted a back pass from American striker Roy Wegerle. He carried to the top left of the penalty area and then fired a shot that deflected off the inside of defender Alexi Lalas into the left corner as helpless goalkeeper Kasey Keller dove in the other direction.

In the 46th minute, the Dutch capitalized on a giveaway by Joe-Max Moore. Three quick passes later, Phillip Cocu slid a pass past defender Jeff Agoos who stumbled as Seedorf collected in the right side of the box. Seedorf beat Keller with a blast into the top left corner.

"They moved the ball very well through the middle, people moved very well off the ball," said U.S. captain John Harkes, who moved from the midfield to left back with defenders Eddie Pope and Thomas Dooley out with injuries. "We tried to play the ball out of the back and play the ball at midfield, but they’re very good at closing people down."
