American U-20s beat Jamaica 4-1; U-18s fall to Turkey.

PORT of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago (Saturday, July 11, 1998) -- The United States under-20 national team scored four goals in the final 14 minutes, the first two by defender Dan Califf, to overcome Trinidad & Tobago’s under-21s yesterday, in the first of two friendly matches to be played by these nations this weekend.

The second match will be played tomorrow. The U.S. is preparing for CONCACAF qualifying for the 1999 U-20 world championships. The tournament for the federation representing North America, Central America and the Carribean, which will advance four nations, will be held August 5-9 in Trinidad.

The American U-18s did not fare well, losing 2-1 to Turkey in the World Youth Games in Moscow.. At 0-2 in Group D, the U.S. was eliminated from any chance of advancing with a final match tomorrow against Poland.
