Hamm scores three in U.S. 5-0 Goodwill rout of Denmark.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Saturday, July 25, 1998) -- Striker Mia Hamm scored three goals as the United States women stormed into the Goodwill Games final with a 5-0 rout of Denmark at the Mitchell Athletic Complex tonight.

It was the 37th straight victory on home soil for the U.S., which will face China in Mondayís title match.

In the other semifinal, China beat defending world champion Norway 4-2 in penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw.

Hamm now has 95 international goals, but it was pass that set up Tiffeny Milbrett to open the scoring in the 18th minute with a 10-yard shot, Hamm shook off two defenders to get the ball to a wide-open Milbrett.

Michelle Akers made it 2-0 in the 29th minute with her 97th international goal, a 35-yard blast into the left corner.

Hammís first goal came moments before intermission off a feed from Kristine Lilly for a 3-0 margin.

Her other two goals came in a five-minute span midway through the second half. In the 70th minute, her 12-yard blast deflected off Denmark goalkeeper Christina Jensen into the upper left corner of the net. The in the 75th, she recorded her ninth career hat trick from 12 yards off an assist from Christie Pearce.

Tiffeny Milbrett opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a 10-yard shot in front of the goal on a pass from Hamm. Hamm shook off two defenders with the pass to a wide-open Milbrett.
