Americans Abroad Keller finally signs with Rayo Vallecano.(Tuesday, August 10, 1999) -- It's finally official, United States goalkeeper Kasey Keller has completed his move to from English Premier League side Leicester City to Rayo Vallecano of the Spanish First Division.Keller signed a two-year contract with the Madrid club yesterday. "I'm very excited to be here," Keller told the Spanish media. "It's going to be a struggle to stay in the first division but we'll work hard and do our best." Rayo, which actually finished in a three-way tie for third place in the second division last season, was promoted to the first division via the end-of-season play-offs. Keller is the club's first new international signing. Several others are expected shortly. The Spanish media does not give the club much of a chance to remain in the first division. Terms of Keller's contract were not announced beyond its length. It had been previously reported that the 29-year-old Keller was looking for a three-year deal. It is also not known if there is a clause in the contract allowing the remaining year to be voided if Rayo is demoted at the end of the current season. |
