Beckerman nets three Cila the winner in 5-3 decision over Paraguay.BRADENTON, Fla. (Tuesday, September 28, 1999) -- Kyle Beckerman score three goals and Jordan Cila the game-winner as the United States under-17 men erased an early two goal deficit and defeated Paraguay 5-3 before 100 at Bollettieri Sports Academy.
The U.S., unbeaten in its last 18 outings, is in final preparations for the world championship tournament November 10-27 in New Zealand.
After Paraguay led 2-0, Beckerman scored in the 17th and 33d minutes to tie it at 2 at intermission with Bobby Convey assisting both tallies. Then Beckerman put the U.S. ahead 3-0 with a penalty kick in the 53d minute.
After Paraguay tied it at 3 with a penalty kick seven minutes later, Cila netted an unassisted tally in the 80th minute -- 10 minutes after entering the match -- for a 4-3 advantage. Cila then assisted DaMarcus Beasley’s insurance goal five minutes later.
Two Paraguayans and one American were ejected in the 89th minute.
