U-23s lose a heartbreaker to FC Estoril 1-0.

CHICAGO (Thursday, January 27, 2000) - The U.S. Under-23 National Team lost another heartbreaker on their tour of Portugal, this time to Portuguese First Division club FC Estoril. Starting a mix of the USA's "A" and "B" teams against the pro club's top squad, the Under-23's made wholesale substitutions at the start of the second half only to fall behind for good in the 62nd minute.

An errant Estoril shot that was headed over the endline deflected off second-half substitute Chad McCarty and past Mutiny teammate and 'keeper Andy Kirk for the lone score. The third and last game for the 23's while overseas will be played on this Sunday, January 30, against German second division club Offenbach FC. From there, the team of Olympic hopefuls is tentatively scheduled to regroup and train from Feb. 5-11 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
