Rayo Vallecano, Keller shutout Seville 2-0.

(Monday, January 10, 2000) -- Rayo Vallecano and its American goalkeeper Kasey Keller got back on the winning track last night by defeating Spanish Primera Division bottom-dweller Seville, 2-0 at home.

Rayo got off to a quick start scoring in the third minute. Luis Cembranos hit a perfect free kick which found the head of David Clotet, who drove it powerfully past Seville keeper Juan Jose Valencifoot.

Cembranos was a terror the entire first half. He shot narrowly over the crossbar in the eighth minute, almost scored again two minutes later and then forced Valencifoot to make a difficult save five minutes before halftime.

Seville came out strong in the second half, but Keller held the visitors at bay. Then in the 62d minute, Juan Antonio (Bolo) Perez made it 2-0 after getting a pass from Cembranos.

The victory picked up Rayo, which has been slumping lately. In the last seven weeks, it has managed to take only seven points from a possible 30.
