U.S. under-19 women Quarterfinals secured, Tarpley, reserves lead 6-0 rout of Taiwan in world tournament.VICTORIA, Canada (Wedneday, August 21, 2002) - Striker Lindsay Tarpley scored two goals while midfielder Megan Kakadelas added a goal and two assists as the United States rolled to a 6-0 triumph over Taiwain tonight to complete Group C play in the inaugural Under-19 Women's World Championships at Centennial Stadium.
Rachel Buehler, Kerri Hanks and Stephanie Ebner also scored for the Americans who, having already clinched advancement to the quarterfinals of the 12-nation tournament, used a vastly different lineup against a clearly inferior side. The U.S. easily compiled a 3-0 record in group play. England and Australia played a 0-0 draw tonight to finish 1-1-1 with both advancing to the quarterfinals, England clinching one of the spots for the two best third-place teams among the three groups. Taiwan left with an 0-3 mark. Kakadelas, Ebner, Hanks and Sarah Huffman ( two assists) were among seven players who started for the first time in this tournament tonight.
