CAMACHA, Portugal (Wednesday, March 5, 2003) -- The United States under-20 men moved into first place of the Seventh Annual Madeira International Tournament today, using goals by defender Arturo Alvarez and midfielder Ned Grabavoy to blank Norway 2-0 at Complexo Desportivo Da Camacha.

The U.S. is 1-0-1 with four points and a plus-2 goal differential in the four-team event and will close Friday against a Madeira regional select team. Portugal, which played a 1-1 draw with the Americans yesterday, is also 1-0-1 after defeating Madeira Select 1-0 on a 90th minute goal, leaving the Portuguese with a plus-1 goal differential.

In the 19th minute, midfielder David Johnson sent a long pass to Alvarez at the top of the penalty area. Alvarez collected the ball, moved to his left and ripped a shot that caromed off the right post into the net.

Grabavoy sealed the victory, finding the far right post on a free kick from the left side in the 82nd minute.
