(Sunday, January 12, 2003) -- Striker Brian McBride, on loan from the Columbus Crew, wore a big grin after scoring 10 minutes into his English Premier League debut for Everton. However, it was his United States teammate, goalkeeper Kasey Keller who had the last laugh when Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 4-3 victory behind three goals by Robby Keane before 36,070 at Spurs' White Hart Lane.

Everton controlled the early play. Ten minutes in, forward Tomasz Radzinski passed to Scot Gemmill who found McBride with a pinpoint pass. McBride, who came to England on a three-month loan from Major League Soccer, coolly slotted his shot under Keller for a 1-0 lead.

McBride "has not played for a couple of months at least, but he showed that he is a willing workhorse and he scored a real good goal," Blues manager David Moyes said. "You can't get enough of those type of players. I thought he did well for us. He never shirked any challenges and he took his goal well and did great to give us the full 90 minutes."

The advantage lasted four minutes until Gustavo Poyet equalized 1-1 for Spurs.

Everton (10-6-6) is tied for fifth place in the Premiership with 36 points, four more that Tottenham (9-8-5) in 10th. Blackburn Rovers (8-6-9), who employ American Brad Friedel in goal, are ninth with 33 points.

Though permitting three goals, Keller had his good moments, including a fine stop on Steve Watson in the first half. Early in the second half, he grabbed an attempt by Alessandro Pistone. Later, Keller produced a great save on Alan Stubbs.

Eight minutes after Keane put Spurs ahead 2-1 in the 50th minute, Keller was victimized by a poor clear by Steffen Iverson which allowed Watson to pounce on the loose ball and fire it into the net.

Keane put Tottenham ahead 3-2 in the 68th minute, but Radzinski blasted one by Keller to six minutes later to tie the game again at 3-3.

Keane gave his side a lead for the third time, to make it 4-3 with a goal in the 83rd minute, and Keller and his mates were finally able to make it stand.
