U.S. men All Confederation Cup games will be aired on Spanish-language television.By Gary Davidson
(Thursday, May 29, 2003) -- American soccer fans will be able to watch all of the United States men's games in next month's Confederation Cup on television -- if they don't mind commentary in Spanish. It might help to have a few friends with a variety of cable and satellite systems. The Univision family of networks, which includes Galavision and Telefutura, will broadcast all matches in the eight-nation tournament that will be played in France from June 18-29. If the U.S. advanced to the final, it would play on all three networks. Since few satellite or cable networks offer all three channels, watching all American action could become a logistical challenge. The U.S. Soccer Federation is exploring the possibility of pay-per-view telecasts in English. "There are talks about English-language pay-per-view, but American fans will at least be able to see the games on the Univision networks" U.S. Soccer director of communications Jim Moorhouse said. The U.S. opens Group B play June 19 against Turkey in St. Etienne at 12:50 p.m. (ET) on Galavision. Next, the U.S. faces Brazil June 21 in Lyon at 3 p.m. on Telefutura. The Americans conclude group play against Cameroon June 23 in Lyon at 3 p.m on Galavision. The semifinals will be on June 26 in Lyon and Paris with Galavsion airing them on same-day delay. The championship game is June 29 and will be broadcast live on Univision at 3 p.m., the only game to be shown on the mother channel. The broadcast schedule for the Confederations Cup in France: Wednesday, June 18 (Group A)
Thursday, June 19 (Group B)
Friday, June 20 (Group A)
Saturday, June 21 (Group B)
Sunday, June 22 (Group A)
Monday, June 23 (Group B)
