American allotment of World Cup tickets was snapped up before public sale.

CHICAGO (Thursday, January 19, 2006) -- The United States Soccer Federation has requested more tickets to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but as things stand, U.S. Soccer's allocation is gone.

The USSF allotment was completely sold out in its initial private offering to its mailing list. There was no public sale.

According to the USSF, it received eight percent of the seats for each of its Group E matches, a total of less than 10,000 tickets, while requests were for nearly 40,000.

The initial presale ran from December 12 to Janaury 4. Ticket applications were received from all 50 states and from U.S. citizens in 16 countries, the USSF said.

"We knew from the beginning that the demand would exceed the supply and that, unfortunately, some of our fans would be disappointed," USSF director of communications Jim Moorhouse said. "The overwhelming response was incredible and shows the true dedication of our fans."

Should additional tickets become available, they will go to those who applied during the initial sale, but did not receive tickets.
