Liverpool have stolen a march on Chelsea in the race to sign Moises Caicedo, as the Reds have agreed a $132 million fee with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The deal would see Liverpool break the British record fee, but the club have moved proactively after Chelsea stole a march in Jurgen Klopp’s pursuit of Romeo Lavia.

According to reports at the BBC, Chelsea still have the opportunity to respond to the latest setback, as they could match the fee offered by Liverpool.

However, it is unlikely that the Blues will offer any higher than the British-record fee put forward by the Reds.

It is certainly an excellent deal for Brighton, who only brought the Ecudorian midfielder for $7 million from Independiente del Valle in February 2021.

However, the move is good for all parties involved, as Caicedo originally asked to leave the Seagulls in the January transfer market, before Brighton rejected two offers from Arsenal.
