Mesut Ozil linked with a move to Fenerbahce

|

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil could be set for a shock move to Fenerbahce in the January transfer window.

Ozil, of course, was at the centre of controversy prior to taking part in the World Cup with Germany, as he met the Turkish president. The meeting was met by divided opinion in his homeland.

He subsequently quit international duty, as he was unhappy with the fact that some following the incident questioned his commitment to the national. Things have not been much better at club level either.

Reportedly fallen out with Emery

Ozil has started the Premier League campaign in mixed form. A reported row with Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been cited by the media as the cause of the midfielder’s poor form.

Ozil missed Arsenal’s game against West Ham. Emery stated that the German was ill and could not feature. During the three league games he has appeared this season, he has been substituted on two occasions.

Ozil has been inconsistent throughout his career

The supposed spate between Ozil and Emery is a poor excuse for the midfielder’s poor form for the Gunners. In reality, the 29-year-old has been highly inconsistent throughout his Arsenal career.

He has only shown flashes of the vision, flair and creativity he is undoubtedly capable of producing. Ozil has looked world-class at times for the Gunners, but then the attacking midfielder has looked invisible on the pitch at other times.

In truth, he has struggled for consistency for club and country for a long time. Many onlookers have questioned his attitude and mental strength during his career. His rather languid running style often gives off the vibe that he is not working hard enough or not trying.

Reports suggest that the new Arsenal boss does not believe that Ozil is tracking back enough or working hard enough for the team.

A move may prove to be the best solution for everybody

Mesut Ozil has just signed a mega £350,000 per-week deal at Arsenal, so it would seem strange for the playmaker to leave the Gunners. However, if the reports of the spate with Emery are correct, then a move elsewhere may be best for all parties involved.

Fenerbahce are currently the favourites to sign Ozil. Whether the player would be interested in a move to the country of his heritage remains to be seen, as does whether the Turkish club can actually match his giant pay packet at Arsenal.

It would be an ironic twist of events for Ozil, whose fascination with Turkey lead to his international retirement. The former Real Madrid played has always expressed his fondness of the country.

From an Arsenal point of view, it would be hard to say that the Gunners would miss the former Germany international. The club are now lumbered with a player on massive wages, who seems to be sleepwalking through games at times.

It would be a sensational move for Ozil to make, especially in January. It will be highly intriguing to see if there is any truth in this story when the next transfer window opens.
