The Premier League will be in full swing this weekend. Yesterday we previewed Saturday’s games. Here is what is happening in Sunday and Monday’s games:
Sunday
Wolves v Burnley (Kick-off 1:30 PM)
Wolves host Burnley in Sunday’s early Premier League kick-off at Molineux, as the home side look to build on their first top-flight win of the season last time out.
Wolves have made a mixed start to life in the English top-flight after promotion from the Championship last season. However, a 1-0 away win at West Ham last time out could kick-start their campaign.
The team from the Midlands have been involved in a number of tight games in the Premier League, with their last three league games producing under 2.5 goals. So far this season the Midlander’s have drawn both of their league games on home soil, against Everton and Manchester City.
Burnley have endured a nightmare start to their top-flight campaign, picking up just one point from their first four league games of the season.
The Clarets have built their Premier League status on solid defensive foundations. However, the side from Lancashire have now conceded at least two goals in their last three league outings. Defensive improvement is needed if Sean Dyche’s side are to avoid a relegation scrap.
The visitors have also won just three of their last 14 away games in the Premier League, having failed to win in their last four outings on the road.
Everton v West Ham (Kick-off 4 PM)
The Toffees have recorded one win and three draws from their first four league games of the season. However, the Merseysiders will be disappointed to have not taken more points from those drawn games.
Everton are pretty strong on home soil in the Premier League, with reigning champions Manchester City the only visiting team to win at Goodison Park in the last ten top-flight games.
West Ham head to one of their bogey grounds in the top-flight, as the Hammers have won just once at Goodison in 11 years. In fact, the Hammers have only claimed three victories on the blue half of Merseyside in the Premier League era. The visitors are underdogs to pick an away win in this clash too.
It is not the ideal ground for the Irons to be visiting when they have lost all four of their opening top-flight games this season. To make matters worse for Manuel Pellegrini’s side they have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four top-flight games.
One positive for the Hammers is that the last team that they defeated was actually, as the Hammers defeated the Toffees 3-1 at the London Stadium on the final day of last season.
Monday
Southampton v Brighton (Kick-off 8 PM)
Southampton host south coast rivals Brighton at St Marys on Monday night, as the Saints look to build on a victory last time out.
The home side kicked off their Premier League campaign with two defeats and a draw. However, last time out Mark Hughes’ side recorded a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace to pick up their first league win of the campaign.
Despite the positivity of that first Premier League win of the season, the Saints home recent home record in the league is poor, as they have won just one of their last 13 home games in the top-flight.
Like the hosts, Brighton have started their top-flight campaign in inconsistent form. The Seagulls have failed to win in their last two league outings after recording a 3-2 home win over Manchester United.
The visitor’s away record is woeful in the Premier League, as they have failed to record a victory on their travels in 15 games, suffering 11 defeats in the process. Chris Hughton’s side has also scored just once in six away games in the top-flight.
