City and Saints clash, as Blues face the Eagles

|

Gameweek 11 of the Premier League continues with games on Sunday and Monday, as team’s battle for points at both ends of the top-flight table. Here is a look at some of those big games taking place over the next couple of days:

Sunday

Manchester City v Southampton (Kick-off 3 PM)

On Sunday afternoon, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium, as the home look to continue a stellar run of form in the top-flight.

The Citizens are currently top of the table, but only courtesy of a superior goal difference to second place Liverpool. If the Merseysiders take anything from their trip to Arsenal on Saturday evening, then Jurgen Klopp’s side will move to the top of the table.

No matter what happens at the Emirates, City should finish the weekend as Premier League top dogs, as they have now won six of their last seven league games. Pep Guardiola’s side are also unbeaten this season in the English top-flight.

The home side has also claimed wins in their last six games at the Etihad Stadium in the top-flight. Three consecutive clean sheets have been married with at least two goals scored in all six home wins.

Southampton have started their Premier League campaign in poor fashion. The Saints are currently 16th in the league table, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Mark Hughes side have now drawn their last two games in the top-flight.

The team from the south coast have had major problems scoring goals of late, as they failed to score their last five Premier League games. An away record in the league of one win, one draw and three defeats in their last five games does not bode for a Saints victory. The visitors are major underdogs to get anything out of this clash.

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (Kick-off 4 PM)

Chelsea have continued their fine start to the Premier League campaign last weekend when the Blues defeated Burnley 4-0 at Turf Moor. The Blues will be confident of continuing that good start to the campaign when they host Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea have won seven and drawn three of their top-flight games so far this season and currently sit third in the table, two points behind table-topping Manchester City and second place Liverpool.

The Blues are unbeaten in eight home games in the Premier League. However, they have drawn their last two league games at Stamford Bridge, although those games were against Liverpool and Manchester United.

Crystal Palace are currently on a poor run of form in the Premier League, having failed to win in their last five top-flight games. In fact, the Eagles have now lost six of their ten Premier League games this season.

Conceding goals has been a big factor in the visitors current poor run of form, as they have conceded at least two goals in six of their last nine top-flight matches. Poor form on their travels has also been a major problem for Roy Hodgson’s team, as the Eagles have lost three of their last four away games in the top-flight.

Palace will not be travelling to south west London with any confidence, especially as they have suffered defeat in their last five meetings with the Blues in all competitions.

Monday

Huddersfield v Fulham (Kick-off 8 PM)

Will Manchester City and Chelsea maintain their good starts to the campaign with wins on Sunday afternoon?
