Jadon Sancho set to start against the USA

|

The media have a habit of over-hyping players, but some players are simply so special that it is hard not to hype them up. One of those players is Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho. According to media reports, the 18-year-old will make his full debut for England in a friendly game on Thursday night against the USA.

A rising star

Sancho has been talked about as a potential star of the future for the last few years. The young winger played a part in England’s under-17’s winning the World Cup in 2017.

Such was his talent, though, his club Dortmund recalled the youngster prior to the knockout stages of the competition. However, this season has been his breakthrough campaign at BVB.

Despite not starting games on a regular basis, Sancho has scored five times and delivered eight assists in competitions this season for Dortmund and he is looking more and more at home in the German game.

Everybody who knows the 18-year-old seems to believe that Sancho will go on and achieve great things. His teammate at Dortmund Christian Pulisic, who he could come against on Thursday night, has stated that the sky is the limit for the young winger.

Seems to be a mature young man

Many young players with potential fail to fulfil their promise simply because they do not have the right mentality. However, from the interviews he has conducted of late, Jadon Sancho comes across as a very mature young man.

The decision to move to Dortmund must have been a difficult one. However, it seems that he has had to make a number of difficult decisions throughout his career already to get where he is today.

Sancho has talked about making his family proud and how important they are to him, which is what you want to hear from a young player. It shows that the youngster is not all about the fame, money and high profile that comes with being a professional footballer.

England favourites on Sancho’s potential debut

Sancho looks set to start his first game for England against the USA, which the Three Lions are favourites to win. However, the youngster is unlikely to be the only debutant for Gareth Southgate’s team.

Brighton centre-back Lewis Dunk looks set to make his first start after a solid start to the Premier League season. Bournemouth’s in-form striker Callum Wilson could also make his maiden appearance for the Three Lions.

The 26-year-old has scored six goals and produced seven assists for the Cherries this season in the Premier League. With a dearth of back up options for first-choice striker Harry Kane, Wilson has an opportunity to nail down a place in the squad.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney has received a call-up so that he can win his 120th cap for the national side. The forward’s international career will be recognised by a late substitute appearance.

With friendly games gaining less and less interest from fans, Thursday night’s clash may just provide some interesting side-stories, not least the potential full debut of the highly talented Sancho.
