Gunners and Red Devils clash, as the Toffees visit the Lion’s Den

|

The FA Cup fourth round ties kick-off on Friday and will be played over the next few days. Here are some of the big matches taking place over the next few days:

Friday

Arsenal v Manchester United (Kick-off 7.55 PM)

Two of the traditional giants of English football meet at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night, as Arsenal and Manchester United clash.

Arsenal have endured mixed fortunes of late, but have been a big presence in the FA Cup in recent years, losing just twice in 25 outings in the famous old competition. The Gunners had little problem overcoming League One Blackpool in the third round, recording a 3-0 win at Bloomfield Road.

The Gunners have been prolific in recent years in the FA Cup, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last eight matches in 90 minutes.

Manchester United will be confident of progression to the next round, as the Red Devils have now won their last seven matches under temporary boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Last time out, they recorded a narrow win over Brighton.

United did not have a problem with dispensing with Championship Reading 2-0 at Old Trafford in the last round. The win means that the team from Manchester have recorded six wins from their last seven outings in the FA Cup.

Just as impressive is the fact that United have won seven of their last eight away matches while scoring at least two goals in each victory.

Despite United’s recent winning run, Arsenal heads into this clash as slight favourites to progress to round sixth of the competition.

Saturday

Millwall v Everton (Kick-off 5:30 PM)

Premier League Everton face a potentially tricky trick to Millwall in the competitions late kick-off on Saturday. The Den can be an intimidating ground to visit for opposition teams, so this game could have the making of a giant killing.

Millwall have endured a mixed campaign so far in the Championship and their priority will be to maintain their status in the second tier. The Lions have failed to win in their last two matches, although they picked up a creditable 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough last time out.

The home side’s recent record in the FA Cup is a mixed one, as they have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five outings in the competition.

Everton heads into this game out-of-form, just three of their last 11 competitive outings. One of those three victories was a 2-1 victory over Lincoln City in the third round of the FA Cup at Goodison Park. The win over Lincoln ended a three-match winless run for the visitors in this competition. The Toffees do not have a great away record in the FA Cup, winning just two of their last five away matches in the competition.

These two teams have only ever met twice in the FA Cup which came in 2006, with the Lions taking Everton to a replay before the Toffees recorded a home win in the replay at Goodison Park.

Other FA Cup fourth-round matches taking place: (3 PM Kick-off unless stated)
