Tottenham visit Dortmund, as Manchester United take a trip to Paris

The second legs of the first batch of Champions League last-16 take place over the next two nights. Here are more details on Tuesday and Wednesday’s big European clashes:

Tuesday

Dortmund v Tottenham (Kick-off 8 PM)

On Tuesday night, German league leaders Dortmund host Premier League Tottenham at the Signal Iduna Park. BVB have a mountain to climb to progress, as the first leg at Wembley ended 3-0 to the team from north London.

Dortmund heads into this game on their worst run this season. Lucien Favre’s side has now won just one of their last seven games in all competitions. The German side also has a mixed recent record in the Champions League, having won just once in their last four games in the competition.

Although BVB are unbeaten in three Champions League home games, a record of two wins in seven games on home soil in Europe’s elite competition is not a great one. They have at least kept clean sheets in their last three home games in the Champions League. The German side are the favourites to win this game, but not the tie.

Like their opponents, Tottenham’s recent form has been poor. The team from north London heads into this clash on a three-game winless streak, having suffered two defeats in the process.

Spurs at least have a respectable recent record in this competition, as Mauricio Pochettino’s team are unbeaten in five games, having recorded three wins and two draws.

The visitors have also been hard to beat on their travels in the Champions League, as they have lost just once in seven away games in the competition. However, four of their last six away games in the Champions League have finished in draws.

Wednesday

PSG v Manchester United (Kick-off 8 PM)

On Wednesday night, big-spending French giants PSG host Manchester United at Parc des Princes. The French side head into this second leg tie 2-0 up from the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. Thomas Tuchel’s side are big favourites to progress to the last eight for another season.

PSG heads into this match on the back of seven straight wins in all competitions, having also scored at least two goals in five of their last six competitive games. The French side are also unbeaten in their last six Champions League games while recording three straight wins.

There is no secret to the French side’s good form in the competition. Their attacking players are just so potent, as they have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven matches in the competition.

The team from the French capital have a good recent home record in Europe’s elite competition, having won six of their last eight outings at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League.

The Red Devils form may have dipped slightly in recent weeks, but they are still unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions, having recorded three wins.

However, United’s recent record in the Champions League does not make pleasant reading, as they have won just two of their last six games in the competition while losing their last two European matches.

The Red Devils recent away form in Europe’s elite competition is also inconsistent. Once again, though, two wins from their last five matches on their travels does not bode well for an away win in this fixture.

The other midweek games in the Champions League

Real Madrid v Ajax (Tuesday night, kick-off 8 PM)

Porto v Roma (Wednesday night, kick-off 8 PM)

Who will advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League from these four ties?
