PSG chasing Premier League midfielder - Soccer Times

PSG chasing Premier League midfielder

|

It seems that big-spending French outfit PSG are attempting to strengthen their squad this summer with the signing of a Premier League central midfielder. That midfielder is Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante according to the Daily Mirror.

Kante the alternative to Idrissa Gueye

PSG had originally targeted Everton’s Idrissa ‘Gana’ Gueye as the player to strengthen their options in the middle of the park. However, it seems that Everton are not keen on parting with the Senegalese star and do not need the money, so he will remain on Merseyside this summer.

PSG already had their efforts to sign Gueye rebuffed in the January transfer window. The player was reportedly interested in the move and the obvious financial rewards it would bring. The Toffees would not budge sell the former Leicester star.

Ironically, Gueye has a similar style of play to that of Kante and there have been many comparisons of the two stars in the last few seasons. Some rather harshly labelled Gueye ‘the poor mans Kante’.

Chelsea will not want to sell

It will not be easy for PSG to sign Kante this summer, even with all the money the club’s owners allow for transfer fees and wages. Like Everton, Chelsea will not want to lose the heartbeat of their midfield, especially as the Blues will unable to replace him due to a transfer ban.

The club from south west London are already likely to lose star player in the shape of Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard, who is expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid in the next few weeks.

It seems highly unlikely that the Blues would sanction the sale of Kante as well as Hazard, despite the fact that the French champions are likely to offer a mega fee for the energetic midfield man.

The move may appeal to Kante

N’Golo Kante could probably get into any top team in European football, so PSG’s interest in the French international is not a major shock. Whether Kante is interested in the move to the French capital is unknown. However, there are some factors that may make the move to Paris this summer.

The biggest factor in a move this summer may be that Chelsea are set for a tough summer. It will be highly difficult for the Blues to push on next season. They are likely to have a new boss and lose their star player to go with the transfer ban.

If Kante stays at Chelsea, he is unlikely to be challenging for the big trophies next season. However, at PSG he will likely win the Ligue One title and make the latter stages of the Champions League. The uncompetitive nature of the French top-flight may not appeal to the combative midfielder, though.

The French international does not seem to be the sort of guy motivated by a pay rise, although I am sure it would not be a hardship earning more money.

This story is typical that fill newspapers and websites, during the summer transfer window especially. Most transfer stories have no substance. However, this move seems to make sense, from the players and PSG’s point of view anyway.
