Tottenham will find it hard to replace Christian Eriksen

|

Last week Tottenham’s Danish international playmaker Christian Eriksen revealed that he would be interested in a fresh challenge this summer. The news came with Spanish giants Real Madrid supposedly interested in signing the midfielder.

Spurs have a major problem, as Eriksen has just one-year left on his contract in north London. Therefore, they may need to consider selling him this summer to avoid losing the Denmark international on a free transfer next summer.

A creative force

Eriksen was not at his best in the last few months of the season. The 27-year-old was on the receiving end of some criticism for his lack of influence in Spurs 2-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Champions League final.

However, despite mixed performances of late, there is no denying that Eriksen has been a major creative force for the team from north London since his arrival in 2013. In fact, the Dane’s 60 assists in the Premier League since his arrival put him top of the assist chart.

No player has produced more assists in the same timeframe, which is quite remarkable when you consider that the likes of David Silva, Eden Hazard, Mesut Ozil and Kevin De Bruyne have all played in the Premier League during Eriksen’s Spurs career. He is also 14th on the list of most goals scored in the top-flight since 2013, with a highly respectable 49 goals.

Tottenham looking at replacements

It seems that there is a very real possibility that Christian Eriksen will leave the north London club this summer. Real Madrid are still reportedly monitoring his situation and are favourites to sign the Dane ahead of Italian club Inter.

Tottenham will have a major problem replacing Eriksen’s creative skills, even if some believe that the Dane is no longer playing to his full potential in a white shirt. His numbers speak for themselves.

How do you replace the most creative player in the Premier League? The answer is that will be very difficult. The team from north London have been linked with a move for Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso, who can play as an attacking midfielder or central midfielder.

The Argentinian will be away on international duty at the Copa America. The 23-year-old is expected to play alongside Lionel Messi for the South American giants in Brazil. Reports suggest that Tottenham saw a bid rejected for the star.

The Daily Mirror claims that Spurs will turn their attention to Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes as an alternative. The only problem with that is that Manchester United and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in signing the midfielder.

Eriksen deserves a big move

It seems strange to say that Christian Eriksen deserves a big move after Tottenham made it to the Champions League final last season. However, that is not the nor for the north London club.

They have developed into a very good team under Argentinian boss Mauricio Pochettino. However, they are not a top echelon team. They are not expected to make the Champions League final again next season.

A move to Real Madrid would give Eriksen a better chance of glory. After the way he has performed during his Tottenham career, he deserves that sort of opportunity.
