Could Premier League clubs raid the Eredivisie this summer?

|

It seems that Ajax’s superb campaign and run to the Champions League semi-final has raised the profile of their national league the Eredivisie.

However, the Dutch top-flight has always been a place where players have developed before moving onto more high-profile leagues. It seems that a number of Eredivisie players have caught the attention of English top-flight clubs. Here are a few possible summer movers:

Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax)

The most high-profile Eredivisie player of all is probably the 19-year-old Ajax captain. He has exploded onto the football scene in recent years and is seen by many as the next big centre-back star.

His performances for his club side have caught the attention of many of Europe’s top clubs. The current favourites to sign the youngster are Catalan giants Barcelona. However, Manchester United are also reportedly interested in signing the highly-rated youngster.

David Neres (Ajax)

The Brazilian winger has been one of the most exciting players for the club from Amsterdam this season. The 22-year-old has even forced his way into the Brazilian national squad for the upcoming Copa America.

The Dutch champions are believed to have already rejected a bid of around £44million from an unnamed Chinese club. The winger is unlikely to come cheap this summer, which could challenge reported interest from both Arsenal and Everton, who are interested in adding to their wide options.

At 22, Neres is still young and although he is attracting interest from elsewhere, he may remain in the Dutch capital a bit longer.

Steven Bergwijn (PSV Eindhoven)

The 21-year-old is another exciting young winger plying his trade in the Dutch top-flight. He has impressed for PSV, although he has not always been a regular starter for the Dutch giants this season. However, he has become a regular in Ronald Koeman’s international set up in recent months.

Reports around Christmas time and the January transfer window claimed that the youngster was in London with his agent. The reports led to links with Champions League-finalists Tottenham.

With doubts over the future of Danish international Christian Eriksen, the link with Spurs may just have some substance to it. However, it seems that Dutch champions Ajax are the favourites to nab the wingers signature this summer. A switch to the capital is seen as a step up. It could lead to a move to a more high-profile move later in his career.

Hirving Lozano (PSV Eindhoven)

Bergwijn’s club teammate has been the subject of interest from elsewhere for the last few seasons. The 23-year-old’s performances at the 2018 World Cup with Mexico led to major speculation that he was on the move last summer.

However, a move never materialised for the talented wide-man and unfortunately, it seems like he will not get a big move this summer either. A knee injury picked up towards the end of the Eredivisie means that clubs may wait to make a move for the winger until January, as they wait to see how he performs after recovering from injury.

One of the teams linked with a big-money move for the Mexican international was Everton. The Toffees director of football Marcel Brands previously worked at PSV. They are looking to bring in a new winger this summer. However, it is unclear if the Merseysider’s will renew their interest in the near future.

Which current Eredivisie stars will be plying their trade in the Premier League next season?
