On Sunday night, the top two in Serie A meet, as league leaders Inter host reigning champions Juventus at the Giuseppe Meazza, in a potentially vital match in the Italian top-flight title race.

Inter (Odds of 8/5 for victory)

The home side could not have asked for a better start to life under former Juventus head coach Antonio Conte in Serie A. The Nerazzurri have won their first six matches in the Italian top-flight this season. In their last league outing, the men from Milan recorded a 3-1 win at Sampdoria. However, a 2-1 midweek defeat at Barcelona in the Champions League has slightly dampened the home sides momentum.

Inter have a solid home record in Serie A dating back to last season, as the Nerazzurri are eight matches undefeated on home soil while recording five straight home league wins.

The home side has built their recent good form at the Giuseppe Meazza on solid defensive foundations, as they have kept clean sheets in four of their last five league outings on home soil.

The recent history of this fixture is against Inter, as the Nerazzurri have won just one of their last 15 meetings with the team from Turin.

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku missed out on the Barcelona game through a muscle injury. If he recovers, he will likely be partnering the lively Lautaro Martinez in attack, with Alexis Sanchez ruled out due to suspension.

Juventus (Odds of 9/5 for victory)

The reigning champions are currently trailing Inter by two points after winning five of their six Serie A games so far this season. Last time out, the Bianconeri recorded a 2-0 win over SPAL. Unlike the home side, Juventus head into this game on the back of a Champions League win, having recorded a 3-0 home victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

The reigning champions have been prolific in Serie A of late, scoring at least twice in four of their last five matches in the Italian top-flight. Veteran star Cristiano Ronaldo has started the season by scoring three league goals in five starts.

Despite an undefeated start on the road in Serie A, the Bianconeri have won just two of their last seven league games on their travels, losing three games drawing twice in the process. Their recent away matches in the Italian top-flight have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six away matches.

The last time Juventus lost at the Giuseppe Meazza was way back in 2010. However, that record could be in serious danger on Sunday night.

Prediction

For the first time in a good while, Inter are looking like mounting a realistic challenge for the Scudetto this season. This game is the first test of the home sides title credentials. A win would certainly instil everybody at the club with a real belief they can win the Italian top-flight.

Juventus will see this as a tough game, as former boss Conte has the managerial acumen and experience to guide the Nerazzurri to victory.

This could be a close encounter. However, we are backing Inter to record a victory at odds of 8/5. Looking at Inter’s recent home games and Juventus matches on their travels, we also recommend the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11.

Verdict: Back the Inter win at odds of 8/5 and/or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
