On Saturday evening, Denmark and Switzerland go head-to-head in Group D of qualifying for the European Championships. Both teams will believe that they can still qualify for next years tournament.

Denmark (Odds of 13/10 for victory)

The home side are unbeaten in the group, having recorded three wins and drawn twice. However, they have won just two of their last ten European Championship qualifiers dating back to 2015.

Their unbeaten run means that Age Hareide’s team have picked up eight points, which means they are second in the group, two points behind group leaders the Republic of Ireland. However, they are just one point ahead of third-place Switzerland. A win could prove to be a massive boost for their qualification hopes.

Denmark have proven to be pretty strong on home soil in qualifying for the recent Euro’s, as they have lost just once in 13 qualifiers. However, the Scandinavian team have drawn three of their last four qualifiers on home soil, although two of those draws did come in the last qualification campaign.

The home side has been relatively prolific home soil in qualifying of late, scoring at least two goals in eight of their last ten home qualifiers.

Switzerland (Odds of 5/2 for victory)

The visitor’s qualification campaign has produced a mixed bag so far. Outside of qualifying for Euro 2020 the visitor’s recent form has been poor, as they have won just once in their last five outings in all competitions.

The Nations League semi-finalists have picked up eight points from four games so far in the group. Like their hosts, Switzerland are unbeaten in qualifying so far, having recorded two wins and picked up two draws.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side has been prolific of late in Group D, scoring at least twice in two of their last three qualifiers for Euro 2020, including in a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture.

Switzerland have a respectable recent away record in qualify for the European Championships, losing just one of their last six qualifiers, and recording four victories in the process.

The visitor’s recent qualifiers on the road have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last eight outings, including their last four games.

Switzerland’s cause will not be helped by the absence of the likes of Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki, Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and Hoffenheim midfielder Steven Zuber.

Conclusion

On paper, there is very little difference between these two sides. Both will have expected to compete for automatic qualification for Euro 2020, and that is exactly what is happening. They are now in a three-way fight with the Republic of Ireland for the two automatic qualification spots.

There is a strong sense that this could be a tight game. With that in mind, we are backing the draw at odds of 23/10. The draw will do neither much good, but it will not kill off their qualification hopes either.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 23/10 (All odds are taken from Bet365).
