On Sunday night, two of the traditional giants of Italian football meet in Serie A, as Juventus host AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus (Odds of 4/9 for victory)
The Bianconeri are at what now seems to be their perennial position at the top of the Serie A table. However, second-place Inter are nipping at their heels, just one point behind the reigning champions.
Last weekend, Inter moved to the top of the table temporary, only for the reigning champions to record a narrow 1-0 win over Torino in the Turin derby, courtesy of a first goal in Juventus colours for Matthijs de Ligt.
The victory means that Juventus have now won seven times in eight matches in the Italian top-flight. They are also unbeaten in their 11 Serie A games so far this season.
Juventus have turned the Allianz Stadium into a fortress, as the Bianconeri have not lost in Serie A on home soil in 26 outings. Maurizio Sarri’s team has won all five home games this season in the league while scoring at least twice in all of the victories.
AC Milan have been one of Juventus’ favourite opponents in recent seasons, as the Bianconeri have beaten the Rossoneri in the last eight meetings in all competitions. The home side has also scored at least twice in seven of those eight victories.
AC Milan (Odds of 15/2 for victory)
Milan are experiencing a difficult start to their Serie A campaign. The men from Milan have already dispensed with the services of Marco Giampaolo and replaced him with Stefano Pioli. The 54-year-old is highly-experienced but has never beaten Juventus in 17 attempts as a boss, suffering 14 defeats in the process.
The former Fiorentina boss has won just one of his four Serie A games in charge of the Rossoneri. The visitors have conceded at least two goals in three of his four matches in charge of Milan. In fact, they have conceded at least twice in six of their last eight games in the Italian top-flight.
Milan’s recent away record in Serie A, as the Rossoneri have won three and lost two of their last five games on their travels. The visitors have only failed to score in one of their last seven matches away from home in Serie A. However, they have also kept just one clean sheet in their last six away games in the Italian top-flight.
Although Juventus made hard work of a victory against Torino, the reigning champions will be highly confident of completing another Serie A victory. Their form on home soil is excellent.
The appointment of Pioli has done little to transform the fortunes of the visitors. With that in mind, we are backing the home win at odds of 4/9. Considering the home sides scoring record at home and the visitor’s leaky defence of late, we are also backing the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 4/9 and/or the over 2.5 goals at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
