Spain are already through to UEFA Euro 2020, whereas Romania’s hopes of reaching the tournament are still very much up in the air.

Spain (1/6)

When you win three consecutive international tournaments and then go seven years without a trophy, fans understandably start to get a little bit restless. In the wake of their disappointing exit from the World Cup last year it seems as if the Spanish went back to the drawing board, and it’s certainly paid off up to this point. They’ll be one of the favourites heading into next year’s Euro 2020 tournament, and rightly so with the kind of strength in depth they have at their disposal.

The Spanish haven’t had it all their own way since June, dropping points to Sweden and Norway in two really entertaining games, with both taking place over in Scandinavia. Their most recent success was a 7-0 battering of Malta, but prior to those games, they secured three consecutive wins over Sweden, Faroe Islands and Romania themselves.

Romania (12/1)

The Romanians have never been particularly well known for their ability to thrive and excel in big tournaments, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t had a few bright moments over the years. They have quality in their squad that just needs to be uncovered, and while they aren’t the strongest unit as a whole, there’s still a lot of optimism regarding what they can accomplish in the next decade or so if they can start to bring through some quality youth stars – which, of course, is easier said than done.

One of Romania’s only two defeats since June actually came against Spain in a 2-1 loss, although the close scoreline did give them cause for hope. Their recent defeat to Sweden was disappointing, but aside from that, it’s been fairly solid for them. They drew 1-1 with Norway and had three wins to their name in a span of four games against Faroe Islands and Malta twice.

Conclusion

Romania will want to give themselves an injection of life but with the stakes not being nearly as high as they were in their first meeting in the group, we can’t picture anything but a convincing Spain triumph. The former European and World champions will want to put on a show, and that’s exactly what we think they’ll do. Romania will get their shots in early but will fade down the stretch, ensuring that Spain’s momentum heading into the Euros continues to grow.

Spain are going to let loose and should really enjoy themselves here, and with Romania also being free scoring from time to time, we’re going to put our weight behind over 3.5 goals being scored – so buckle up for some Monday evening entertainment.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 1/6 and the over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 5/4. (All odds are taken from bet365).
