Prediction and odds for the game: Southampton (8/11) v Norwich (16/5)

We are backing the home win.

When: 04 December 2019, Kick-off 7:30 PM

Where: St Marys Stadium

On Wednesday night, Southampton host Norwich at St Marys, in what could be a pivotal game in the Premier League relegation battle.

Southampton

After a tough start to their Premier League campaign, things seem to be turning around of late for the Saints. A 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Watford last time out means that the team from the south coast have picked up four points from a possible six in the Premier League.

The results have seen the home side move to within two points of safety. With 17th place Everton facing a daunting trip to league leaders and local rivals Liverpool, a win should be enough to move the Saints out of the drop zone.

The victory over the Hornets for the Saints ended an eight-game winless run in the Premier League. The victory also brought to an end a woeful defensive record in the top-flight, that had seen Hasenhuttl’s team conceded at least two goals in their previous four league outings.

The Saints have a poor recent home record, with one win in their last nine Premier League matches on home soil. This game looks like a golden opportunity to record a second straight home win in the top-flight.

Norwich

Just like the home side, Norwich’s form has improved of late, as the Canaries have also taken four points from their last two Premier League outings. Last time out in the top-flight, Daniel Farke’s team drew 2-2 at Carrow Road against Arsenal. The game saw the Canaries concede at least two goals for the fourth game in five Premier League outings.

The visitors have struggled on their travels in the Premier League, as the Canaries have now suffered defeats in eight of their last ten league matches on their travels, winning just once in the process.

A 2-0 win over Everton in their last top-flight game at least gave the Canaries hope of recovery on the road. A victory in this clash would move Farke’s team level on points with 17th place Everton. However, it would take a big swing in goal difference for the Canaries to escape the relegation zone, even if as expected the Toffees suffer a defeat at arch-rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

The Canaries do not have a great recent record against the Saints of late, as they have won just one of the last five meetings with the team from the south coast.

Conclusion

Both teams will fancy their chances of continuing their recent improvement in this clash. However, something has to give in this clash, with not much seemingly between the two teams. Southampton have struggled for wins at St Marys of late, but we are backing the Saints to edge this clash.

With both team’s poor at the back, we are also backing over 2.5 goals to be scored at odds of 4/7.

Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 8/11 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/7. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
