Arsenal will attempt to further derail the title push of Manchester City when the two meet in the Premier League this weekend.

Arsenal

The fall of Unai Emery has made way for what many hope to be the rise of Freddie Ljungberg – although many are uncertain as to whether or not it’s going to be a successful tenure for the Swede. He’s had a rocky start to proceedings, and with many believing that the club are on the lookout for a replacement, there are questions as to what the future holds for the Gunners. For now, all they can focus on is trying to vault themselves back into the mix for a spot in the top four, however unlikely that may be.

Arsenal’s only victory across their last six games was against West Ham United, which simply isn’t good enough for a team of their perceived quality. They’ve picked up draws against Southampton, Norwich and Standard Liege, none of which are really good enough. Their losses have come against Eintracht Frankfurt and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Manchester City

Even Manchester City fans will be well aware of the fact that they’re seriously behind the pace in the title race. If they lose even more ground over the next few weeks, then Liverpool’s nearest challengers are going to be Leicester City for the remainder of the season. Pep Guardiola has a lot of different competitions to try and juggle and while he’s done well at balancing all of that in the past, he seems to be dropping the ball right now. Whether he can pull it back remains to be seen.

On the flip side to Arsenal there’s only been one loss for City as of late, but it was a big one against local rivals Manchester United. They also dropped points against Newcastle and Shakhtar Donetsk, but did manage to secure wins over Chelsea, Burnley and Dinamo Zagreb.

Conclusion

While City may be against the ropes, their situation isn’t so bad that they should be dropping points to Arsenal. The Gunners can get at them from an attacking point of view, but they almost need to throw caution to the wind. If they give it their all, especially early on, then they could quite easily park the bus and give themselves something to defend. In the end, though, we do believe City are more than capable of getting the three points they need to get things back on track.

Goals are virtually guaranteed in our opinion, which is why we’re leaning towards the over 2.5 goals threshold – as there always seems to be some form of drama in this fixture.

Verdict: Back the away win at odds of 4/9 and the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 1/3. (All odds are taken from bet365).
