Prediction and odds for the game: Manchester United (3/4) v Everton (7/2)

When: Sunday 15th December 2019, Kick-off 2 PM

Where: Old Trafford

On Sunday afternoon, north west rivals Manchester United and Everton meet at Old Trafford in the Premier League in a potentially fascinating clash.

Manchester United

The Red Devils fortunes seem to have turned around things around in recent matches, as they have won their last two games 2-1 against Tottenham and most impressively Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The two straight wins have moved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer team up to the table to fifth and five points behind Chelsea. The key to United’s recent return to league form has been their attacking exploits, as they have scored at least twice in their previous five league games.

United are now five games undefeated at Old Trafford in the English top-flight but have drawn three of their last five league games on home soil. While those home matches do not always produce a glut of goals, both teams have scored in six of their last seven matches on home soil in the top-flight.

Everton

The Toffees have endured a poor Premier League campaign and are currently 14th place in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone. However, a 3-1 victory over Chelsea last time out seems to have changed the whole mood of the club.

The appointment of Duncan Ferguson as interim boss has certainly lifted spirits at the Merseyside club. The Toffees will be looking to add to that recent Chelsea win and move up the Premier League table.

A record of just three wins in their last 12 top-flight games, shows just why the Merseysider’s are struggling for results in the Premier League. The visitor’s poor recent results have not been helped by their poor defensive record, as they have kept just one clean sheet in one of their last 12 Premier League games.

Everton’s recent away record has been woeful of late in the top-flight, as they have won just once in their last 11 outings on the road in the Premier League while losing six of their last seven matches on their travels. The Toffees main problem on their travels in the league has been conceding too many goals, having let in at least twice in five of their last seven matches.

One positive for Everton of late is Brazilian forward Richarlison. The 22-year-old has now scored in four of their last five Premier League matches.

Conclusion

This game could have been slightly different a couple of weeks ago. However, it seems that United are on an upward curve, while it remains to be seen if the effect Ferguson’s appointment continues in Manchester.

Despite the win against Chelsea, we are backing United to record a home win, as they look as if they have returned to form. We are also backing the over 2.5 goals scored, as both these teams look to have great potential going forward.

Verdict: We are backing the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/5 and/or the home win at odds of 3/ 4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
