Prediction and odds for the game: Everton (1/2) v Newcastle (11/2)

We are backing the home win

When: Tuesday 21st January 2020, Kick-off 7:30 PM

Where: Goodison Park

Two teams looking to push into the top half of the Premier League table meet at Goodison Park on Tuesday night, as Everton host Newcastle.

Everton

The Toffees recent Premier League form has improved since the departure of head coach Marco Silva. A 1-1 draw at West Ham last time out means that the Merseysider’s have suffered one league defeat in their last eight games since Silva’s departure. The one defeat came at reigning champions Manchester City in a 2-1 loss. The improvement in form has seen Everton move up to 11th place in the table.

The Toffees recent Premier League matches have not been the highest-scoring, with five of their last seven matches producing under 2.5 goals.

Everton’s home form has also improved of late, as the Merseysider’s are now unbeaten in four league games at Goodison Park, having recorded three wins in the process. A defensive improvement has been key to those recent positive home results, as the Toffees have now kept three straight clean sheets at Goodison Park in the top-flight.

The home side are something of a bogey side for the visitors, as the Toffees have beaten the Magpies in six of the last eight meetings in all competitions. The last meeting was at the end of December at St James Park, with the Toffees recording a 2-1 win.

Newcastle

Just like their hosts, Newcastle have the chance of moving into the top-half of the Premier League table with a victory in this clash. The Magpies are level on points with the Merseysider’s in the table.

The visitors hopes of moving into the top-ten of the Premier League have been hampered by an inconsistent recent run of form. A 1-0 home win over Chelsea last time out ended a four-game winless run in the top-flight, having suffered three defeats.

Steve Bruce’s team have been travel sick of late in the Premier League, suffering six defeats in their last nine matches on their travels in the top-flight.

The Magpies recent games on the road have been relatively tight, low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven away matches. Keeping just one clean sheet in their last nine games has not helped their chances of picking up results on their travels.

Conclusion

Both teams will be looking up the table and eying a place in the Premier League’s top-ten. We are backing the home win in this clash, as the Toffees have been in good form of late on home soil, while Newcastle have struggled for away wins of late.

The other bet we are backing is the under 2.5 goals scored, as Everton have a good recent defensive record at Goodison Park. Newcastle’s recent away matches have been low-scoring in recent months.

Verdict: We are backing the home win at odds of 1/ 2 and or the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
