Prediction and odds for the game: Dortmund (2/7) v Koln (8/1)

We are backing both teams to score at odds of 4/6

When: Friday 24th January 2020, Kick-off 7:30 PM

Where: Signal Iduna Park

On Friday night, Dortmund host Koln at the Signal Iduna Park, as the home side look to consolidate their place in the Champions League spots.

Dortmund

BVB are currently fourth-place in the Bundesliga table, seven points behind league leaders RB Leipzig. However, a victory in this clash would move the home side level on points with second-place Bayern Munich, at least temporarily.

Lucien Favre’s team started 2020 in the Bundesliga with an incredible 5-3 victory at Augsburg. The victory saw BVB’s new signing Erling Haaland come off the bench to score a hat-trick on his debut in the German top-flight. The Norwegian striker is likely to start this clash after his extraordinary debut.

Despite a recent inconsistent poor run of form in Bundesliga, Dortmund have been highly prolific in front of goal. In fact, BVB have scored at least three goals in six of their last nine league outings. The presence of Haaland in the team will only make the home team more prolific.

Dortmund are difficult to defeat at Signal Iduna Park, as Schalke are the only opposition team to win at BVB in their last 25 Bundesliga matches. They are also undefeated in nine home games in the German top-flight.

Koln

The visitors head to Dortmund in superb form. The Billy Goats have recorded four straight Bundesliga victories. A 3-1 win against Wolfsburg last time out means that Markus Gisdol’s team have scored at least two goals in three of their last four matches in the German top-flight.

Despite their recent good league form, Koln are still just three points clear of the relegation play-off spot and five points outside the relegation zone. They will know that they are not safe from a relegation battle just yet.

The visitors have a woeful away record in the Bundesliga dating back to their previous stint in the German top-flight, as they have suffered defeats in 11 of their last 14 outings on their travels in the Bundesliga.

A surprise 4-2 win at Eintracht Frankfurt last time out in the league ended a four-game losing streak on their travels. Even in victory at Frankfurt, they still managed to concede two goals, something which has happened in their last five league outings.

The recent history of this fixture is on the side of the home team, as Koln have not won any of their last six meetings with Dortmund.

Conclusion

We expect BVB to end Koln’s recent good run of form. However, there is very little value in backing the home win. Instead, we are backing both teams to score, simply due to the fact that the two teams recent matches have been so high-scoring. With that in mind, we are also backing the over 3.5 goals scored.

Verdict: We are backing both teams to score at odds of 4/6 and or over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11.
